Stephen Ray “Steve” Kerr, 65, of Collinsville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at his residence. Born on July 10, 1958, in St. Louis, Missouri, Steve was the cherished son of Loal and Sally (Hanson) Kerr, from Salem, Missouri.
Steve’s life was marked by unwavering dedication and service. He proudly served as a Sergeant in the United States Army, exemplifying loyalty and patriotism. After his military service, he continued to make a difference by working as a Safety & Health Manager, most recently at Hubbell Wiegmann, Inc. in Freeburg, Illinois. An avid outdoorsman, Steve found solace in nature. He loved deer hunting and was equally passionate about competitive and recreational shooting. He enjoyed sharing his passion for gun safety through firearms and Conceal/Carry training. Steve was a member of the Town & Country Gun Club in Maryville, Illinois, and the Piasa Armory family in Alton, Illinois. Beyond his outdoor pursuits, Steve had a soft spot for “man’s best friend.” His puggle, Pippin, was a loyal companion who brought joy to his heart. Steve also enjoyed reading, camping and spending quality time with family and friends.
As we honor his memory, we fondly recall Steve as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, as well as a cherished son and brother. His absence leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his parents, Loal and Sally (Hanson) Kerr, of Salem, Missouri; his beloved wife of 20 years, Linda K. (Koeplin) Kerr, of Collinsville, Illinois; his sons, Joseph E. Uptegrove, of Warrensburg, Missouri and Luke J. Uptegrove, of Collinsville, Illinois; his grandchildren, Joey and Jonah Uptegrove; his siblings, Daniel (Debbie) Kerr, Janet (Steve) Delatte, and Michael (Becky) Kerr; his niece and nephews, Kyle (Morgan) Campey, Zachary Kerr, Riley Kerr, and Ian Hartmann; and many other cousins, relatives and friends.
