Maxine J. Nelson was born February 3, 1927 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota and passed away peacefully with family by her side on January 19, 2025. Her husband of 62 years, Robert "Bob" Nelson, passed on October 15, 2009, as did her daughter Teresa "Teri" Englund on September 12, 2023. Surviving family members include children Joanne "Joey" Nelson, Bradford Nelson, and Brenda Whan, daughter-in-law Suzanne Nelson, son-in-law Jay Whan, Glenn Englund, ten grandchildren (Emily Downing, Sarah Bruner, Andy Nelson, Maggie Mills, Hannah Hunter, Perry Whan, Randy Whan, Trevor Whan, Anna Baca, Erin Englund), and 31 great-grandchildren.

While living in Kendallville, she taught first grade for most of her teaching career. Maxine loved activities; playing piano, tennis, tai chi, line dancing, swimming, movies, bridge clubs, and the Kendallville YMCA. She was a member of the Trinity Church United Methodist. Later in life she moved to Carmel, Indiana and Palmetto, Florida before settling in Peachtree Corners, Georgia. Travel was another favorite of Maxine's and included Ireland, England, Israel, Alaska and most other states. She was loved and cherished by her family and friends and inspired many during her life.
