Doris Edith Marshall (nee Jackson, Fasci), aka Grandma D, 87 of West Hartford, Connecticut passed away Thursday, April 25, 2024 at her familys home in Encino, California with family by her side after a short illness. Born in 1936 in Flint, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Alonzo and Marjorie (Goode) Jackson.
She received her degree from Sparrow Nursing school in Lansing Michigan in 1957. After graduating, she married, had four children, and settled in Bristol Connecticut before moving to Florida. She spent over forty years as an O.R. Nurse at New Britain General Hospital and Bayfront Medical Center in St. Pete, Florida and received her Certified Nursing for O.R. accreditation. She took care of her patients with care and compassion. She made many life-long friends. She was a loving mother, sister, friend and step-mother.
During her working years and after retirement, she traveled to many places around the world, most often with her sister Winnifred and brother-in-law Lewis. Antarctica was one of her favorites. She also loved being at the beach. She was a true matriarch; her pride and joy were her family who all loved her deeply. She made every effort to be with them around the country, including celebration of milestones, even if this meant driving from Florida to Connecticut by herself. She spent thirty years in Palmetto, Florida, near her sister Winnifred and enjoyed the friendly community at Tree Lakes Resort Park where she built a home. She led many of the Resorts events including pool exercise classes. One of her favorite past times was Genealogy research. She was an avid reader and enjoyed daily crossword and sudoku puzzles.
She is survived by her four children, their spouses, and her grandchildren. They include her son Daniel A. (Ana Liza) Fasci, her daughter Diane L. (Fasci) Stephenson, her daughter Donna M. (Russ) Cashdan, her daughter Dawn E. (Bruce) Politz. She was overjoyed to have eight grandchildren: Anna Marie (Rae) Pona, Matthew Stephenson (Meg Nastri), Anthony Fasci, Nicholas Cashdan (Sadie Ebeyer), Claire Cashdan (Delaney Moslander), Magaret Cashdan, Spencer Politz and Benjamin Politz. She has several nieces and nephews who considered her a favorite Aunt. She was predeceased by her sister Winnifred Armitage, brother-in-law Lewis and several other members of her extended family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinsons Research or Healing Meals Community Project in Simsbury, Connecticut. The funeral will be a private ceremony.
